Update regarding the new grading system

The discussions regarding changing the grading system at SSE is ongoing. The students opinions are being represented through the Education Committee. For previous information on this, please check out: http://www.sasse.se/student/education/event/invitation-discussions-regarding-potential-new-grading-system-sse

On November 2, the students were invited by the student association to an open meeting to give their view on a potential new grading system. The invitation went out via mail to all SASSE Members, information was posted on all billboards at the SASSE premises and also in all internal digital channels. During the meeting, several points were brought up and discussed. Some of them formed standpoints and arguments that were to be brought up for discussion in the student council. During the student council meeting on November 11, the council voted that the three main arguments that should be presented and argued for in the discussions should be:

1. Maintain the good culture at SSE
If the grading system is redesigned, it should not negatively affect the collaborative and non-competitive culture, which is a hallmark for the interaction between SSE Students.

2. Good comparability and distinguishability If the grading system is changed, it should be designed so that SSE students can be compared to students from other schools, while it still shall be possible to distinguish the ones who have performed well academically.

3. Minimize negative consequences for previous students If a new grading system is designed, the negative effects on the students which will fall between the new and the old system shall be minimized. Examples could be quotas on the MSc programs for BSc students and informing employers about the changes (but these are just examples).

A new and modified proposal will be presented by the working group at the Faculty & Program board at December 7. The proposal will then go through a round of referrals and a suggestion will be taken at the Faculty & Program board in March. The plan is then to implement the new system during fall 2016.
